In pursuit of this goal, so far as is reasonably practical the Company will: • Provide and maintain plant and equipment to acceptable standards; • Develop safe work procedures and provide adequate instruction and supervision; and • Make available special protective equipment and devices to help protect employees against particular hazards and ensure that they are utilized. It is the Employee’s responsibility to: • Carry out their activities in the most knowledgeable and safest manner, thereby avoiding injury to themselves or fellow workers; • To point out and help correct unsafe conditions and acts; and • To use all devices and personal protective equipment specified in standard job procedures. Any accident is a reflection that somewhere we have failed in our responsibilities. Management and employees are asked to make a personal commitment to make safety a way of life at Cando. Safety and willingness to obey the rules is of the first importance in the performance of duty. If in doubt, the safe course must be taken. Our collective objective is to be the safest railway contractors and operators in the industry. Cando Managers are responsible for implementing the following activities and initiatives to enhance and ensure the continued safety and reliability of all Cando operations: • Provide leadership and support to motivate staff to work safely at all times; • Hire qualified staff and provide job orientation, training, certification and refresher training as required; • Prepare position job descriptions and standard operating procedures; • Develop a pro-active safety culture by involving employees in regular Operational and Safety Meetings, periodic and new work site Hazard Assessments, formal Near-Miss and Safety Incident Reporting, and regular Safety/Workbench Huddles; • Form an Employee/Management H&S Committee at all Operating Sites; and • Develop and implement formal Emergency Response Procedures for all operations.
